RoSPA Gold Award

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service have won one of the prestigious RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards for 2008.

The Gold Award was presented at a special ceremony at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel, National Exhibition Centre on Thursday, May 15th  which ran alongside Safety and Health Expo 2008, the UK ’s premier health and safety at work exhibition.

David Rawlins, RoSPA Awards Manager, said “North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service have demonstrated how seriously they take health and safety management and are a fine example to many other companies.  We would like to see more organisations following their lead”.

Andy Trowsdale, Assistant Chief Fire Officer for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service commented "I am delighted that we have received the RoSPA Gold award for 2008, particularly as this is now the second year in which the Service has been recognised in this way. We are a service which is proud of its approach to understanding and managing the risk to our people and communities, and it is rewarding to have the hard work and commitment of all our staff reflected by such a body as RoSPA".

The RoSPA awards are not just about reducing the number of accidents and cases of ill-health at work; they help to ensure that organisations have good health and safety management systems in place.  Entering the awards scheme reinforces the message that good health and safety is good business and clearly demonstrates an organisation’s commitment to the achievement of high levels of performance in this crucial area. The RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards 2008 were sponsored by NEBOSH (The National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health), the leading health and safety professional examining body.
