Retained (Part Time)/ On Call Firefighter RecruitmentRetained (Part Time)/ On Call Firefighter Recruitment Retained/ On Call firefighters are professional firefighters trained by North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue, but they work on a part time basis. Rather than being based at a Fire Station, retained firefighters provide on-call cover from home or their place of work. They respond to emergencies when their pager alerts them so must work or live four minutes travel time from the station. We are currently recruiting for Retained (part-time)/ On Call Firefighters at some of our retained stations. We are particularly keen to recruit people who can primarily provide daytime and weekend cover (6am-6pm or parts of). If you are interested in applying for a station that is currently recruiting please download the Information and Application Pack below. If you require more information about these vacancies or about completing the application pack please contact the Recruitment Team on 01609 788563 / 788533. Click here to find out about an Open Day event we held at our Training Centre in Easingwold. We are not always recruiting for every station depending on levels of crewing. The stations that we are CURRENTLY recruiting for are:-
We also have stations in these areas but currently there are NO VACANCIES and we are not recruiting for these stations:-
With the exception of Goathland and Lofthouse these are all retained stations therefore Retained Firefighters /On Call Firefighters attached to these stations are required to live or work within 1 mile / 4 minute response time to the Fire Station. Please note that Goathland and Lofthouse are volunteer fire stations and attract a different salary package to that detailed in this pack. Please contact the Recruitment Team or attend the relevant drill night as detailed in Section 12 of the information pack if you would like to know more about these stations. Volunteer firefighters are still required to apply and undertake all the tests detailed in the information pack. If you are successful following the recruitment process you will be expected to attend 4 drill nights at the retained station that you are appointed to and one Pre-Course Learning Day at Training Centre, Easingwold prior to attending a two week Retained Firefighter Course. Please be aware that all applications are processed as quickly as possible but vacancies at stations are limited and we have found that on occasion applicants who have been in the recruitment system longer than yourself may be successful in filling the vacancies before you. However, in this situation we will hold your details of file and re-activate your application as and when another vacancy arises. Depending on the length of time that your details are held on file there may be a need to re-take the tests or medical as they are only valid for a certain period of time but we would discuss this with you in full if we hold your application. To be considered for the position you must adhere to the Recruitment Process below:- 1) Complete the EST5/C Form - Availability Form - This form indicates your availability to attend fire calls and it is an integral part of the recruitment process. If your availability does not meet the requirements of the station or your address is outside the 1 mile / 4 minute response time then your application will not be progressed. 2) Complete the Application Form - Please note that Section 2 of this form will be sent out later in the recruitment process for you to complete after you have successfully passed the written and physical tests. It is not included in this application form at this stage. 3) Complete the Equal Opportunities Monitoring Information Form 4) Complete the Medical Questionnaire - Please see the covering letter in the Application Pack for full details of how to return these forms.
