This Privacy Policy explains how we use any personal information we collect about you.

What is a ‘privacy notice’?

A privacy notice is the oral or written statement that people are given when information is collected about them. As a minimum it should tell people who you are (North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service), what you are going to do with their information and who it will be shared with. It should help individuals understand how you will use their information and what the consequences of this are for them in a fair and transparent way. It does not apply to the collection of information that does not identify people e.g. anonymised or statistical information.

Why do we collect your information?

We collect your personal information to allow us to carry out various business functions such as completing home and business risk assessments, fitting smoke alarms, running education/training programmes for young people and identifying those at greater risk of fire and providing practical fire safety advice. In addition we collect information when you complete customer survey forms such as the ‘after the incident’ form which provides us with feedback to constantly improve the services we provide. We also collect personal information you volunteer to give us, when completing consultations and community engagement exercises.

How will we use the information about you?

We have to hold the details of people who have requested a ‘service’ from us in order to provide them with that service and for other closely related purposes. In some cases we will share your information with other key agencies in line with the agreed ‘Data Sharing Protocols’ to enhance the services we provide. NYFRS works with a variety of partners, on numerous targeted activities. An example of this is home care assistants, having been trained by NYFRS personnel carry out a basic home safety risk assessment when visiting their vulnerable or elderly clients and pass the details onto NYFRS to complete a full home risk assessment and fit smoke alarms etc. as appropriate.

Access to your information and correction

You have the right to request a copy of the information we hold about you. If you would like a copy of some or all of your personal information, please email or write to us using the details contained in ‘How to contact us’  section at the bottom of this page . We want to make sure that your personal information is accurate and up to date. You may ask us to correct or remove information you think is inaccurate.

Visitors to our website

When someone visits our website we collect standard internet log information and details of visitor behaviour patterns. We collect this information in a way which does not identify anyone and we do not make any attempt to find out the identities of those visiting our websites.
