1 Male Rescued - Flat Fire, York

Location: Lydham Court, York

At 2306 hours the Fire Service were called to a smoke alarm sounding and smoke issuing from a top floor flat.  Fire crews from Acomb and York Fire Stations attended. 

Upon arrival fire crews found 2 males in the property in their mid twenties, one was in the process of leaving the property after being alerted by the smoke alarm the other occupant had to be led to safety by a firefighter. 

Both occupants were taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation. 

The cause of the fire was cooking left unattended in the oven.  The fire caused 100% fire damage to the contents of the oven and the cooker and 20% smoke damage to the flat.  Crews used a positive pressure ventilation fan to ventilate the property.
