Agricultural Buildings Fire - Aldwark

Location:  Aldwark Village Street, Aldwark

At 0857 hours the Fire Service were called to a fire involving agricultural buildings.  Fire Crews from Boroughbridge, Easingwold, Acomb and York attended.  The incident involved 4 agricultural buildings measuring 20 x 50 metres.  The buildings contained 500 piglets which were rescued by Fire Service, apart from 6 piglets who died as a result of the fire.  There were 3 tractors, a fork lift, a car trailer and a hedge trimmer tractor were also in the buildings but were 100% destroyed by fire.  One building was 60% destroyed by fire the other 3 buildings were 100% destroyed by fire.  Crews used 6 breathing apparatus and 4 hose reel jets to deal with the fire.  The cause of the fire is believed to be a fault on the JCB telescopic handler.
