Chemical Incident - A61 Ripley

Location: A61 near Ripley

Crews from Harrogate and Tadcaster were initially mobilised to reports of a chemical spill on the A61 near Ripley, upon arrival crews made up for a further 3 appliances and another heavy rescue unit.  These appliances were mobilised from Summerbridge, Ripon, Knaresborough and Malton. 

Approximatley 20 to 30 ltrs of Formic acid had leaked from a barrel which had fallen off a tractor and then hit 2 vehicles travelling behind on the A61.  All occupants of the vehicals were checked over by the ambulance service as fire service crews began to mitigate the spillage and begin clear up operations.  Crews used 6 breathing apparatus, 4 gas tight suits, full decontamination showers.

The last appliance left this incident at around 02:40
