7th June 2015

Toc:  06:03 hours

Location:  Middlecroft Drive, Strensall, York

At 0603 hours the Fire Service were called to an E Cigarette Charger on fire.  Fire Crews from Huntington Fire Station attended.  The fire started due to the charger being plugged into a laptop to charge and had got overheated.  The occupant was awoken by his smoke alarm sounding and put the fire out using a bowl of water.  The fire caused just under 1 square metre of scorching to the carpet. Crews carried out a full inspection.

If you use an e-cigarette we have a number of safety tips:

  • Follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer carefully.
  • Only use the charger supplied with the battery as they need to be charged at the correct rate of charge.
  • Never leave e-cigarette batteries unattended whilst on charge.
  • Ensure that e-cigarettes are not left charging for long periods of time.
  •  Look for the CE mark that indicates chargers comply with European Safety standards.
