Female Rescued from Car in Precarious Position - Burton Salmon

Location:  Near to the Railway Crossing, A162 Burton Salmon

At 1240 hours the Fire Service were called to a two vehicle Road Traffic Collision near the Railway Crossing on the A162 at Burton Salmon.  Fire Crews from Selby and Tadcaster Fire Station attended.  The Collision involved a BMW and a Vauxhall Corsa.  The occupant of the BMW a male aged late twenties was out of the vehicle upon the arrival of the Fire Service.  The Corsa as a result of the collision had left the road and gone down the embankment and was stopped by a hedge and a fence ending up in a precarious position at a 45 degree angle, 20 feet above a field.  The driver of the Corsa a female aged approximately 34 years was trapped in the vehicle due to its position not her injuries.  Fire Crews used a winch, stabilisation equipment and hydraulic cutting equipment to remove nearside doors to release her, she was taken to hospital by road ambulance suffering from a broken arm.
