Fire at Recycling Plant, New Lane, Great Heck

Location:  New Lane, Great Heck, Selby

Time of Call: 01:30

A call was received in Fire Control reporting a fire seen at the above location, a fire crew from Selby was sent and on arrival they found 500 tonnes of shredded recycling material alight, another fire engine was sent from Snaith in Humberside for water and manpower.

The fire has been extinguished using 2 hose reel jets, 1 breathing apparatus and a light portable pump, along with the use of a site mechanica digger to turn over rubbish.  The cause is believed to be sponeneous combustion.

The crew from Selby will revisit the site later today to ensure all hotspots have been extinguished.
