Flat Fire - York

2nd March 2015

Location:  Fornt Street, York

At 1843 hours the Fire Service were called to a fire in a block of flats on Front Street in York.  Fire Crews from Acomb, York and Huntington attended.  Upon arrival Crews found the fire was in the ground floor flat.  Fortunately, the elderly occupant was out at the time of the fire. The fire caused 100% fire damage to the carpet, 90% fire damage to a wardrobe and door, 50% smoke damage to the ground floor and 10% heat damage to the carpet.  Smoke alarms were fitted in the property and did raise the alarm.  Crews used 6 breathing apparatus, 3 hose reel jets, a positive pressure ventilation fan and a door enforcer to deal with the fire.  Fire crews requested the Red Cross Fire and Emergency Services Vehicle to attend the incident to help the occupant of the flat as his flat was uninhabitable.  The cause of the fire is to be confirmed following a Fire Investigation.
