House Fire - Great Smeaton

20th April 2015

Location: Great Smeaton

Time: 1030 hours

Two fire engines from Northallerton and an aerial ladder platform from Darlington have been called to a fire in a large 3 storey detached farmhouse at Great Smeaton.

The incident involved a quantity of wall insulation on fire in a ground floor shower room.  This has resulted in fire damage to the wall insulation, smoke damage to the bedroom above on the first floor and also slight smoke damage to the room above on the second floor.

Smoke detectors were fitted but did not activate due to insufficient smoke being generated.

A plumber quickly extinguished the fire using a dry powder extinguisher and fire crews have used various hand tools and saws to gain access behind the plaster board to check for hot spots.
