Incident Summary Night Shift 24th April

24th April 2016

 

Undergrowth fire – Airy Hill, Whitby

Time of call: 1811 hours

A crew from Whitby has been called to 2 areas of undergrowth on fire covering approximately 5 sqm. The cause is deliberate and the crew used a knapsack sprayer to extinguish.

 

Bin fire – London Inn Yard, Newborough, Scarborough

Time of call: 1812 hours

A crew from Scarborough has been called to a large bin fire. The cause is deliberate and they used 1 hosereel jet to extinguish it.

 

Small fire – Sandy Bank, Northallerton

Time of call: 1945 hours

A crew from Northallerton has been called to a fire in a field. This was part of a bale of straw in a sluice valve pit. The cause is malicious and a knapsack sprayer was used to extinguish it.

 

Kitchen fire – Dickens Road, Malton

Time of call: 2002 hours

A crew from Malton has been called to a kitchen fire in a domestic bungalow. This incident involved an item of clothing being placed onto the hob and then the hob being accidentally switched on. Fire damage was caused to the clothing and the hob and the kitchen suffered severe smoke damage. Smoke detectors were fitted, they activated and raised the alarm. The cause is accidental and the crew used a thermal imaging camera for inspection only.

 

False alarm – Guisborough Road, Great Ayton

Time of call: 2037 hours

A crew from Stokesley has been called to reports of a fire on the allotments. This was a false alarm due to controlled burning.

 

Garden fire – Coronation Avenue,Colburn

Time of call: 2204 hours

A crew from Colburn has dealt with a fence fire in a garden of a residential property. Radiated heat from a chiminea spread to the adjacent fence causing fire and heat damage to 3 panels. Crews used a hosereel jet and a shovel to extinguish the fire.

 

False alarm – Dragon Parade, Harrogate

Time of call: 2208 hours

Two crews and the aerial ladder from Harrogate and crews from Knaresborough and Boroughbridge have been called to a smell of smoke in the basement of a 3 storey block of flats. This was a false alarm due to smoke from a discarded cigarette butt which had been discarded behind an external fall pipe. Thermal imaging cameras were used to carry out a full inspection al all 3 floors.

 

False alarm – Middle Walk, Scarborough

Time of call: 2217 hours

Two crews from Scarborough have responded to a smoke alarm activation in a residential property. This was a false alarm due to cooking fumes.

 

Car fire – Howsham Bridge, Howsham

Time of call: 2314 hours

A crew from Huntington has been called to a fire involving a Kia MPV style vehicle. 100% fire, heat and smoke damage was caused to the whole of the vehicle and crews used 1 hosereel jet, 1 breathing apparatus and lighting to deal with the incident. The cause is deliberate.

 

Effect entry – Riccall Lane, Kelfield, Selby

Time of call: 0127 hours

A crew from Selby has been called to a commercial property to rescue a member of staff from a bathroom after she became locked inside due to a faulty door handle. The female was released uninjured by the crew using hand tools.

 

False alarm – Park Parade, Harrogate

Time of call: 0426 hours

A Crew from Harrogate attended an automatic fire alarm sounding in a commercial property. This was a false alarm due to an unknown fault.

 

False alarm – Westfields, Kirkbymoorside

Time of call: 0556 hours

A crew from Kirkbymoorside attended an automatic fire alarm sounding.  This was a false alarm due to an unknown fault.
