Incident Summary – Day Shift Saturday 27th October

In order to ensure that people are not identifiable from our incident round-up, we will no longer be providing street names, for smaller towns and villages, where incidents have occurred.

False alarm – Goodramgate, York

Time of call: 0720 hours

A crew from York has responded to a smoke alarm activation in a commercial property. This was a false alarm due to cooking fumes.

Truck fire – Guisborough Road, Whitby

Time of call: 0813 hours

Crews from Whitby and Lythe have been called to reports of a 3.5ton recovery truck on fire. Fire, heat and smoke damage caused to engine compartment and cab. Crew used 1 hose reel, 2 breathing apparatus and road safety lighting. The cause is believed to be an electrical fault.

Bush fire – Robert Street, Harrogate

Time of call: 0819 hours

A crew from Harrogate has dealt with a small bush on fire approx. 1m by 1m. Crew used 1 hose reel to extinguish. The cause is believed to be a discarded firework.

False alarm – Tower Street, Harrogate

Time of call: 0830 hours

2 crews from Harrogate and 1 from Knaresborough have responded to reports of smoke in a commercial property. A full search of the premises was carried out using thermal imaging cameras but no fire was located. This was a false alarm due to smoke percolating into the property from the nearby bush fire.

False alarm – A19, Shipton

Time of call: 0953 hours

A crew from Huntington has responded to reports of a lorry on fire. This was a false alarm due to excessive fumes from the truck exhaust due to an engine fault.

False alarm – Scarborough Road, Filey

Time of call: 0959 hours

A crew from Scarborough has responded to reports of smoke coming from the vent of a boiler in a domestic property. This was a false alarm due to smoke from the chimney of a neighbouring property.

False alarm – off Haxby Road, York

Time of call: 1109 hours

Crews from York and Acomb have responded to a smoke alarm activation in a residential property. This was a false alarm. The cause is unknown due to the system being reset prior to our arrival.

Lift rescue – Skipton

Time of call: 1141 hours

A crew from Skipton has rescued 4 people from a lift after it stalled between 2 floors. Crew used lift keys and all persons were unharmed.

Water rescue – Between Egton and Grosmont

Time of call: 1148 hours

Crews from Goathland, Lythe and Whitby attended  reports of a car stuck in a flooded ford. Crews walked the occupants of the vehicle (and their dog) to safety. Hose inflation walkway and level three swift water rescue equipment was used. 

Flat fire – South Parade, Northallerton

Time of call: 1234 hours

2 crews from Northallerton have been called to reports of smoke coming from a domestic property. Crews discovered overcooked chips had been removed from the oven but sufficient smoke was produced to activate the smoke alarm. Due to hearing difficulties the resident could not hear the alarm and was led from the property by fire fighters. Crews ventilated the property and an ambulance attended to provide a precautionary check up for the resident who suffered slight smoke inhalation.

False alarm – Tadcaster Road, York

Time of call: 1239 hours

A crew from Huntington has been called to reports of a Vauxhall Zafira on fire. This was a false alarm due to fumes from the clutch. No fire.

False alarm – Valley Bridge Road, Scarborough

Time of call: 1416 hours

A crew from Scarborough has responded to a smoke alarm in a commercial property. This was a false alarm due to an engineer working on the system.

Dangerous structure – Queens Parade, Scarborough

Time of call: 1417 hours

Scarborough crew have made safe a piece of scaffolding which had come loose at the 4th floor level of a property. Information passed to contractors and local authority. Crew also cordoned off the area. Manpower only used.

False alarm – Stonegate, York

Time of call: 1441 hours

Crews from York and Acomb have been called to a smell of smoke in a commercial property. This was a false alarm due to acrid fumes from an overheated over-door heater. Thermal imaging camera used for inspection only.
