Incident Summary – Day Shift 18th August

Car fire – Tewit Well Road, Harrogate

Time of call: 1040 hours

A crew from Harrogate has dealt with a car fire involving a Mercedes estate. Fire damage was caused to the engine compartment and  passenger compartment and the whole vehicle suffered smoke damage. The cause is believed to be accidental due to a faulty fuel or oil pipe. The crew used 2 breathing apparatus, 2 hose reels and a reciprocating saw.

Road traffic collision – A169, Low Marishes

Time of call: 1125 hours

Crews from Malton and Kirkbymoorside have been called to a 2 vehicle road traffic collision involving a Vauxhall Corsa and a Renault Megane. 1 male and 1 female in the Corsa were out of the vehicle on our arrival and suffered minor injuries. 1 male and 2 females in the Megane were also out of the vehicle on our arrival. The male suffered minor injuries, a female suffered chest injuries and has gone to hospital via road ambulance. The other female suffered serious injuries and has been taken to hospital via air ambulance. As a result of the collision, the fuel tank ruptured on the Corsa and caused a fire which was extinguished by our crews using 1 hosereel. Fire crews also administered first aid until arrival of ambulance.

Trapped paraglider – near Hunmanby Sands, Hunmanby

Time of call: 1148 hours

A crew from Filey has been called to reports of a paraglider who had come down and landed in a tree. On their arrival, the male had managed to free himself from the tree and appeared uninjured. No action taken by our crews.

Rescue from swing – Haxby Road, New Earswick

Time of call: 1227 hours

A crew from Huntington has been called to reports of 2 children stuck in a childs swing. The young girls, aged 9 and 11 had both become stuck after squeezing into the same childs swing. They were released uninjured by fire crew using hand tools and socket set.

False alarm – Tewit Well Road, Harrogate

Time of call: 1320 hours

A crew from Harrogate has been called to reports of smoke coming from a car which had been on fire this morning. This was a false alarm due to residual steam from the vehicle The crew used a thermal imaging camera for inspection only.

False alarm – Swan Road, Harrogate

Time of call: 1322 hours

A crew from Harrogate has responded to a smoke alarm activation in a commercial property. This was a false alarm due to a fault on the detection system.

Stubble field fire – Beverley Road, Norton

Time of call: 1336 hours

Crews from Malton and Sherburn have tackled a fire in a stubble field measuring approximately 2000 sqm. They have used 2 hosereel jets, beaters and wild fire backpacks. The cause is controlled burning which got out of control.

Kitchen fire – Hull Road, York

Time of call: 1545 hours

Crews from Acomb and York have dealt with a pan on fire on the hob  in the kitchen of a commercial property.  Fire damage was caused to the pan and contents and surrounding area. Staff used 2 foam extinguishers and a fire blanket prior to our arrival. Fire crews used 1 hosereel and 2 breathing apparatus. The cause is accidental due to cooking being left unattended.
