Incident Summary – Night Shift Monday 11th July 2016

 

Tumble dryer fire – Birch Grove, Sleights

Time of call: 1731 hours

Crews from Whitby and Lythe have dealt with a tumble dryer on fire in the utility room of a mid terraced residential property. This resulted in fire damage to the tumble dryer, fire, heat and smoke damage to the utility room, heat and smoke damage to the kitchen and smoke damage to the remainder of the property. Smoke detectors were fitted and activated, alerting a neighbour who used a garden hose to fight the fire. Our crews have used 2 breathing apparatus, 1 hosereel jet, a thermal imaging camera, a positive pressure ventilation fan and various hand tools. The cause is believed to be the ignition of residue oil on items in the tumble dryer.

 

False alarm – Conygarth Way, Leeming Bar

Time of call: 1858 hours

A crew from Northallerton has responded to a smoke alarm activation in a commercial property. This was a false alarm due to burnt toast.

 

False alarm – Station Road, Upper Poppleton

Time of call: 1937 hours

A crew from Acomb has responded to a smoke alarm activation in a residential property. This was a false alarm due to cooking fumes.

 

Grill pan fire – Westlands, Stokesley

Time of call: 2110 hours

A crew from Stokesley has dealt with a grill pan fire in a residential property. Damage was limited to a residue to grease only. Smoke detectors were fitted and activated. The fire was out on arrival and our crew carried out an inspection and gave advice to the occupier.

 

False alarm – James Way, York

Time of call: 2159 hours

A crew from York has responded to a smoke alarm activation in a residential property. This was a false alarm due to fumes from a hairdryer.

 

Animal rescue – Burn, Selby

Time of call: 2214 hours

A crew from Selby and the animal rescue unit from Malton have assisted with a cow that had collapsed and was unable to get back up. Assisted by the farmer with his forklift, the crews have used strops to raise the cow back onto her feet. Left in the care of the farmer, the cow appeared uninjured.

 

False alarm – Ryefield Close, Eastfield

Time of call: 2222 hours

A crew from Scarborough has investigated reports of a fire in the open. This was a false alarm due to controlled burning under supervision.

 

False alarm – Thornburgh Road, Eastfield

Time of call: 0014 hours

Crews from Scarborough have responded to a smoke alarm activation in a commercial  property. This was a false alarm due to a smell of burning in the property, the source of which could not be located. Overnight safety measures to be taken by staff.

 

False alarm – Wains Road, York

Time of call: 0043 hours

A crew from Acomb has responded to a smoke alarm activation in a residential property. This was a false alarm due to fumes from an oven which had accidentally been left switched on.

 

False alarm – Alexandra Court, York

Time of call: 0331 hours

A crew from York has responded to a smoke alarm activation in a commercial property. This was a false alarm due to an unknown fault.
