Incident Summary – Night Shift Monday 20th March


Fire – Grafton Lane, Aldborough

Time of call: 1642 hours

A fire engine and water bowser from Boroughbridge has dealt with a fire involving straw and hay approx. 20m by 10m. The crew have used 1 hose reel and the farmers JCB. The cause is believed to be embers from nearby controlled burning.


Road traffic collision – A19 northbound near Crathorne

Time of call: 1750 hours

A crew from Northallerton has been called to a minor road traffic collision involving a Vauxhall Astra. No persons trapped and occupants received precautionary check up from paramedics on scene. Fire crew assisted making scene safe. Incident left with Police.


False alarm – Dane Avenue, York

Time of call: 1832 hours

A crew from Acomb has investigated a fire in the garden of a domestic property. This was controlled burning under supervision. Advice given to occupier.


Small fire – Lockey Croft, Wigginton

Time of call: 1930 hours

A crew from Huntington have dealt with a rubbish fire in a small recycling box. Slight heat damage was also caused to an adjacent fence. The cause is believed to be discarded smokers materials. Crew used a bucket of water.


Rubbish fire – off Mayfield Road, Whitby

Time of call: 1932 hours

Crews from Whitby and Lythe have dealt with 2 piles of rubbish on fire on a public footpath. One of the fires contained 8 small cylinders which had all exploded prior to fire service arrival. The second fire involved a 15kg propane cylinder. Fortunately this larger cylinder did not explode. The crew have used water backpacks to extinguish the fire and cool the cylinder, lighting and a thermal imaging camera. The cause is believed to be deliberate.


Bin fire – Airy Hill, Whitby

Time of call: 2043 hours

A crew from Whitby has dealt with a bin fire in the open. The cause is believed to be deliberate and the crew used 1 hose reel.


Dangerous structure – Walmgate, York

Time of call: 2122 hours

A fire engine and aerial ladder from Huntington have removed a flagpole from the front of a commercial property after it had become loose and was posing a danger to pedestrians underneath. The crew used the aerial ladder to remove the flagpole from the second floor level.


Chimney fire – Greenways Drive, Wistow

Time of call: 2149 hours

A crew from Selby has dealt with a chimney fire in a domestic property. The cause is believed to be an accumulation of soot and the crew used lighting and a thermal imaging camera.


False alarm – Blacksmith Bank, Little Crakehall

Time of call: 2228 hours

Crews from Bedale and Leyburn have investigated a smell of burning inside a domestic property. A full search was carried out using a thermal imaging camera but no sign of fire could be located.


False alarm – Osbaldwick Industrial Estate

Time of call: 0301 hours

A crew from York have responded to a smoke alarm activation in a commercial property. This was a false alarm due to insects in the detector head.


False alarm (malicious) – Swan Road, Harrogate

Time of call: 0351 hours

A crew from Harrogate has responded to a smoke alarm activation in a commercial property. This was malicious due to deliberate activation of a break glass point.
