Incident Summary Night Shift Monday 2nd July 2018

3rd July 2018

In order to ensure that people are not identifiable from our incident round-up, we will no longer be providing street names, for smaller towns and villages, where incidents have occurred.We also attended a number of fire alarm activations during the shift which turned out to be a false alarms.

Fire in kitchen – Cemetery Road, York

Time of call: 20:47

An appliance from Huntington attended this incident which was a plastic tray that had been left on top of a hot cooker top, the fire was out on arrival of the fire crews.  Fire crews inspected the premises for fire spread and damage and ventilated the flat due to some minor smoke logging.

Fire in the open – The Green, Scarborough

Time of call: 21:10

An appliance from Scarborough attended this incident and extinguished a small bonfire that was being used to burn plastic.

Building fire (High School)  – Sherburn in Elmet

Time of call: 23:54

Appliances from Tadcaster, Huntington, Garforth, Pontefract and aerial ladder platforms from Leeds and Harrogate attended this incident which involved a gymnasium building measuring approximately 20m by 25m in size, crews remained on scene throughout the night and used multiple main jets and ground monitors to tackle the fire. Currently the incident has been scaled down to 2 appliances which will maintain a presence for most of the day damping down hot spots. Crews worked hard to limit the fire spread from the gymnasium  to the main school building.  

Fire investigation will be undertaken during the daylight hours and further information will be made available in due course.

3rd July Update

Crews this morning continued to dampen down hotspots. They also revisited to dampen hotspots throughout the day.

No cause has been established at this time. Investigations into the cause of the fire are being undertaken with North Yorkshire Police and details about that investigation can be found here http://northyorkshire.police.uk/news.
