Incident Summary - Night Shift Saturday 22nd October

23rd October 2016

Chimney fire – Grassgill, West Witton Time of call: 1716 hours

Crews from Richmond, Reeth and Hawes have been called to a chimney fire in a residential property. The fire was confined to the flue within the chimney breast. The cause was due to building work. Crews used chimney kit and a thermal imaging camera.

Rescue – River Ouse, Shipyard Road, Selby Time of call: 1758 hours

A boat from Selby, a swift water unit from Malton and a fire engine from Huntington have rescued 2 adults (uninjured) from a stricken vessel on the River Ouse. Lines were then used to secure the 20ft narrow boat to the river bank until it’s recovery can be arranged.

Grill pan fire – Percys Lane, York Time of call: 1807 hours

A crew from Acomb has been called to a small fire an oven in the kitchen of a residential block. Damage was limited to the interior of the oven and the plastic grill pan handle. The kitchen had slight smoke damage. A resident had attempted to extinguish the fire using a fire blanket. Crews used 2 breathing apparatus and a fire blanket. The cause was accidental as the grill had been turned on instead of the oven.

Fire – Lancaster Park Road, Harrogate Time of call: 1914 hours

Crews from Harrogate, Knaresborough and Boroughbridge have dealt with a fire in the toilets of a commercial property. This resulted in fire damage to toilet rolls and the adjacent holder and wall. There was also smoke damage to the cubicle. Crews used a 9 litre water extinguisher and 2 breathing apparatus. The cause was deliberate.

False alarm – Main Street, Thornton le Moor Time of call: 1950 hours

Crews from Northallerton and Thirsk have been called to smoke coming from an oil fired boiler fitted to the exterior of a domestic property. This was a false alarm due to a fault on the boiler. Crews isolated the oil and electric supply and left advice for the owner.

False alarm - Church Wynd, Richmond Time of call: 2154 hours

A crew from Richmond has responded to a smoke alarm activation in a residential property. This was a false alarm due to steam activating the detector.

Road traffic collision – Gargrave, Skipton Time of call: 2332 hours

2 crews from Skipton have been called to a single vehicle road traffic collision in which a female was trapped in the vehicle due to possible neck and back injuries. She was released by the fire crews and taken to hospital by ambulance.  Our crews used hydraulic cutting gear, hydraulic spreaders, saws, lighting and hand tools.

Road traffic collision and fire – Mains Lane, Whitwell on the Hill, Malton Time of call: 0053 hours

Crews from Malton and Huntington have dealt with a single vehicle road traffic collision which resulted in the vehicle catching fire.  The small hatchback type vehicle had 3 occupants, all of whom were removed from the vehicle prior to our arrival. 1 male and 1 female suffered minor injuries. 1 female suffered more serious injuries. All have been taken to hospital. The vehicle was totally destroyed by fire. Our crews used 1 hosereel, 1 breathing apparatus, lighting and first aid equipment.
