Incident Summary – Night Shift Saturday 24th March

 In order to ensure that people are not identifiable from our incident round-up, we will no longer be providing street names, for smaller towns and villages, where incidents have occurred.

Farm fire – Normanby

Time of call: 1232 hours

Crews from Kirkbymoorside, Pickering, Helmsley and Malton, along with a water bowser from Boroughbridge and welfare unit from Thirsk have been called to a fire in a barn. The building was totally destroyed by the fire and unfortunately some animals have perished in the blaze. Crews have used main jets, breathing apparatus, hose reels and portable pumps to extinguish the fire. A number of sows and piglets have been rescued. The cause of the fire is believed to be an electrical fault and the incident remains open for a revisit on Sunday morning.

False alarm – off Old Maltongate

Time of call: 1727 hours

Crews from Malton have been called to a smoke alarm activating in a domestic property. On arrival at the scene, a haze could be seen through the property windows. Forced entry was made and a plastic container was discovered on a hot hob producing acrid fumes. No persons in the property at the time. Crew ventilated fumes.

False alarm – A174, Mickleby

Time of call: 1730 hours

A crew from Lythe has responded to reports of a fire in the open. This was a false alarm due to controlled burning.

False alarm – A169 near Grosmont junction

Time of call: 1752 hours

A crew from Whitby and volunteers from Goathland have been called to reports of a fire on the moor. This was a false alarm due to controlled burning by gamekeepers.

False alarm – Slingsby Crescent, Harrogate

Time of call: 1815 hours

A crew from Harrogate has been called to reports of a fire in a rear garden. This was a false alarm due to controlled burning. Advice was given to resident.

Residential property fire – Winterburn

Time of call: 2044 hours

Crews from Grassington and Skipton were initially called to reports of a chimney fire. On arrival crews removed logs that had ignited after being placed close to a log burner. Crews ventilated the property and gave advice to the occupants.

False alarm – Muston Road, Filey

Time of call: 2101 hours

Crews from Filey and Scarborough have been called to reports of a chimney fire in a domestic property. This was a false alarm due to smoke from a wood burning stove.

Rubbish fire – Dodsworth Avenue, York

Time of call: 2112 hours

A crew from York has dealt with a rubbish fire in the open. The cause was deliberate by youths and a bucket of water was used to extinguish.

Fire in Field – A174 Mickleby

Time of call: 2339 hours

Small number of bales of hay alight in a field. Lythe crew attended and will let the bales burn out.

Assist Police – Selby

Time of call: 0005 hours

A crew from Selby has assisted Police in the search for a missing person by using a thermal imaging camera. Person located by Police. No further action by Fire Service. #workingtogether

Effect entry – off Wueen Street, Scarborough

Time of call: 0229 hours

A crew from Scarborough has been called to assist a male who had locked himself out of his flat and had left the cooker on. The incident was handed over to the Police who then gained entry.

Malicious call – Dallamires Lane, Ripon

Time of call: 0308 hours

2 crews from Ripon have been called to reports of smoke coming from a commercial property. A full search of the area was carried out but no fire was located. Believed to be a malicious call.

False alarm – Crescent Road, Harrogate

Time of call: 0318 hours

A crew from Harrogate has responded to a smoke alarm activation in a commercial property. This was a false alarm due to fumes from a vapour stick.

False alarm – Haxby Road, York

Time of call: 0510 hours

A crew from York has been called to reports of a fire in the open in a park. A full search of the area was carried out but no fire could be located.
