Incident Summary – Night Shift Saturday 8th April


18:58 Location: Field behind Jennyfield Drive, Harrogate

Fire in open extinguished by crew using a bucket of water.

19:43 Seamer Road, Scarborough.

False alarm due to attended controlled burning in garden.

19:52 Seventh Avenue, York.

Shed and it’s contents extinguished extinguished using hosereel after accidental ignition.

20:02 Field Lane, Thorpe Willoughby.

Large fire in derelict building and surrounding area due to large amount of waste being dumped in the area.

Two fire appliances attended from Selby, and from West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (Pontefract and Garforth) and the fire was fought with two main jets (and ground monitors). 

Crews had extinguished the fire around 23:20 and remained on scene damping down hotspots.

The cause of the fire is believed to be deliberate ignition, of dumped waste, at this time. 

Residents in areas directly affected by smoke should stay indoors if possible and keep their windows and doors closed. Any smoke can be an irritant so if people need to be outdoors, they are advised to avoid areas affected by the smoke, or to limit the time they spend outside. As always, if anyone has any health concerns they should seek medical advice or call NHS 111.

Crews revisited the site on the 9th April to damp down hotspots which has reignited due to excess heat.

One hay bale set alight deliberately. Broken up by crew using pitchforks.

22:17 Tudor Road, York

Rubbish fire left unattended in rear garden extinguished by crew using hosereel.

22:45 Flats on Market Place, Thirsk.

Automatic fire alarm activation due to system fault.

0246 Residential property – Victoria Place, Whitby

False alarm - fire alarm sounding due to damage being caused to a call activation point.

0322 Residential property – Mallory Court, Skipton

False alarm due to a faulty smoke detector.

0628 Residential property – Broughton Road, Skipton

Water leak in attic due to escaping steam from a failed boiler. Crew used triple extension ladder to access and inspect.
