Round up of incidents for – Dayshift Thursday 21st January 2016



Pumping out – West Pier, Scarborough

Time of call: 0559 hours

A crew from Scarborough have been called to pump water from a sinking 14ft fishing trawler in the harbour. A light portable pump was used by the fire crew from an adjacent lifeboat. Unfortunately once pumping stopped the water level increased and the boat sunk. Incident left with Harbour Master and boat crew.


Lorry fire  – A63, South Milford

Time of call: 0728 hours

2 fire crews from Tadcaster have been called to a lorry with smoke coming from its brakes. Fire damage was confined to the brakes. Crews used a hosereel jet and a thermal imaging camera to extinguish. Cause is overheating of brakes.


False alarm – Racecourse Road, York

Time of call: 0739 hours

York crew have investigated a fire alarm activation at a commercial property. This was a false alarm due to a fault in the fire detection system.


False alarm – Church Square, Harrogate

Time of call: 0808 hours

A Harrogate crew have investigated a fire alarm activation at a residential property. This was a false alarm due to steam activating the alarm.


Chimney fire – Fanny Lane, Knayton

Time of call: 0822 hours

Northallerton crew have dealt with a chimney fire in a residential property. They have used a hosereel and adaptor, triple extension ladder and a roof ladder to extinguish the fire which was caused by an accumulation of soot.


Tractor fire – Fountains Lane near Fountains Abbey

Time of call: 0958 hours

2 fire engines from Ripon have dealt with a tractor on fire on Fountains Lane near Fountains Abbey. The tractor suffered 70% fire damage and the cause is believed to be an electrical fault.


House fire – Stonegate, Hunmanby

Time of call: 1127 hours

Fire crews from Filey and Scarborough have dealt with a fire in a semi detached residential property. Fire started in the sitting room and caused fire, heat and smoke damage to that room and also smoke damage through the remainder of the property. Crews have used 4 breathing apparatus, 2 hosereels, door enforcer and thermal imaging camera. The cause is believed to be sunlight refracted through a crystal ball.


False alarm – Wigginton Road, York

Time of call: 1240 hours

A crew from York have investigated a smoke alarm activation at a commercial property. This was a false alarm due to condensation in the smoke detector.


Chimney fire – Moor House Lane, Easingwold

Time of call: 1330 hours

Fire crews from Easingwold and Boroughbridge have dealt with a chimney fire at a domestic property. They used a 9m ladder, thermal imaging camera and small tools. The cause is accumulation of soot.


Road traffic collision – Leeds Road, Pannal

Time of call: 1405 hours

Fire crews from Harrogate and Knaresborough have been called to a flatbed lorry and trailer which had rolled down an embankment and come to rest on its side against a tree. 1 male was trapped in the vehicle. He has been released by fire crews and taken to hospital with non life threatening leg, back and abdominal injuries. Fire crews used hydraulic cutting gear and triple extension ladders.


Road traffic collision – A682, Hellifield

Time of call: 1431 hours

A fire crew from Settle has attended a single vehicle collision. The male driver was out of the vehicle on our arrival and was receiving first aid for minor injuries. No action taken by fire crew.


False alarm – A64 westbound near Fulford

Time of call: 1457 hours

Fire crews from York, Acomb and Huntington have been called to reports of a lorry on fire near the Designer Outlet junction. There was no fire. Smoke is believed to be from oil leaking onto the hot exhaust. A thermal imaging camera was used for inspection only.


Road traffic collision – High Street, Knaresborough

Time of call: 1647 hours

Minor road traffic collision involving 2 cars. Knaresborough fire crew assisted with scene safety and left incident in hands of Police.


Chimney fire – Garden Lane, Sherburn in Elmet

Time: 1655 hours

A Tadcaster crew have been sent to deal with a chimney fire in a domestic property. The cause is an accumulation of soot. Crew have used buckets of water to extinguish.


False alarm – Kitchener Street, Selby

Time: 1716 hours

A fire engine from Selby has been called to reports of a fire in a rear garden. This was a false alarm due to a controlled bonfire in a brazier.
