Incident Summary Tuesday 17th October Day Shift

Please see below a round up of incidents from Tuesday 17th October Day Shift

Wenning Side, Clapham  Time 07:19

An electricity pylon had come down in a field and was on fire. We sent our Bentham crew who discovered that the pylon had snapped and was hanging precariously. The crews extinguished the fire and made area safe. Advice was given to nearby residents to avoid the area. The electricity board has been informed and will be attending.

Gladstone Lane, Scarborough  Time 08:19

Our Scarborough crews attended a building that had a window pane hanging from it, dangerously over footpath from a second storey window. The crew made the area safe and boarded up the window.

Jobbing Cross, Pilmoor  Time 08:33

Crews from Easingwold and Boroughbridge attended a residential property made of wood that was on fire. When crews arrived the fire had been put out by the occupants, but the crews damped down using a hose reel and breathing apparatus to make the area safe. The fire is believed to have started from a mattress that was stood against a wall and had fallen onto a heater.

York Road, Knaresborough  Time 08:38

Our Knaresborough crew went to a car on York Road where the driver had seen smoke coming from the engine. The crews inspected the car and found the engine oil was above recommended levels. Crews gave safety advice before leaving.

Muston Road  Time 08:39

A large tree branch was hanging over a road causing a hazard. Our Scarborough crews attended and used their aerial ladder platform to cut and remove the branch safely.

Plainville Lane, Wigginton  Time 11:48

Our Huntington crew attended a field that was believed on fire. Our crews investigated the area and found that this was controlled burning under supervision.

Daskett Hill, Sheriff Hutton  Time 11:56

A crew from Malton attended a field where a tractor was believed to be on fire. Our Malton crews arrived and made contact with the owner who was carrying out controlled burning of rubbish only. Crews gave advice for safety before leaving.

Castle Close, Castleton  Time 12:00

A crew from Danby attended an automatic fire alarm sounding. This was confirmed as a false alarm due to false activation by cooking appliances.

Robert Street, Harrogate  Time 12:15

A crew from Harrogate attended an automatic fire alarm sounding. This was confirmed as a false alarm following work on site tripping the alarm.

Chapel Lane, Brayton  Time 12:46

A fire was seen by a member of the public in the garden of a house on Chapel Lane. Our Selby crew went to the scene and found garden waste that had been burned as a part of controlled burning. The fire had spread to fencing panels but all fires were out when the crews arrived. The crew used a hose reel to damp down the area.

Nunthorpe Avenue, York  Time 12:55

A number of straw bales were seen on fire in a field. Our York crew attended the scene and extinguished eight small hay bales using a hose reel jet and pitch forks.

St Helens Square, Scarborough  Time 16:43

Three children had become trapped in a lift. Crews from Scarborough attended and released the emergency stop button which had been pressed. The children were all released unharmed.
