Round up of incidents Day Shift Thursday 19th May

 Chemical Incident – Dunslow road, Eastfield, Scarborough

Time of call: 0824 hours

Fire engines from Scarborough and Filey and an Incident Support unit from Malton have been called to a 25 litre drum leaking formalene which cause irritation to approximately 6 workmen. The spill was absorbed by an on-site spill kit and the fire crews washed down the industrial machinery. The workmen affected were given a precautionary check up at the scene by paramedics but didn ot require hospital treatment. Fire crews used 6 breathing apparatus, 1 hosereel and a chemical testing kit.

 Rescue from slurry pit – New Road, Hessay

Time of call: 1141 hours

Fire engines from York and Acomb and Incident Support Units from Tadcaster and Ripon have been called to an incident involving a tractor which had reversed into a slurry pit due to a mechanical failure. 1 male was trapped in the tractor. Chains and farm machinery was used to secure the tractor and pull it towards the edge of the pit. Fire crews then used pitched ladders out to the tractor allowing the driver to crawl to safety. He was uninjured. Crews used a 9m ladder, triple extension ladder, lines and buoyancy vests.

 Lift rescue – Station Road, York

Time of call: 1331 hours

A crew from York has rescued 2 males from a lift  in a commercial property.  Lift keys were used and the males were uninjured.

Road traffic collision – Mill Hill Lane, Giggleswick, Settle

Time of call: 1433 hours

A crew from Settle has dealt with a 2 vehicle road traffic collision in which 1 male was trapped in the vehicle. The crew has used cutting gear to allow paramedics to access the casualty. The male was released and taken to hospital with non life threatening injuries.
