Kitchen Fire - Dunnington

Location:  Derwent Court, Derwent Estate, Dunnington, York

At 0233 hours the Fire Service were called to a fire in a kitchen in a house on Derwent Court.  Fire engines from York, Acomb, Huntington and an Aerial Ladder Platform Appliance attended.  Upon arrival crews found there had been a fire involving cooking on a hob.  The fire was out on arrival.  The occupier a male aged approximately late twenties had suffered burns to both hands dealing with the fire and was taken to Hospital via road ambulance.  The fire caused 100% fire damage to the food and 80% smoke damage to the room of origin.  Smoke alarms were fitted and did actuate.  Fire crews used 2 breathing apparatus, 1 hose reel and a thermal imaging camera to deal with the fire.
