Male suffers burns in garden fire near Scarborough

Location: Ings Lane, Brompton, Scarborough.

The firecrew from Sherburn attended a garden fire in the rear of a domestic premises after receiving a call initially from the ambulance service, who stated that a male had suffered burns in the incident.

On their arrival at 20:12, firefighters doused the garden fire of approximately 2 x 2 metres by use of water from  a hosereel.

The injured male was within the premises having cold water administered to him in the shower.

Firecrews assisted paramedics in providing first aid to the male who was in some distress, prior to his transfer to an ambulance to take him to hospital.

Paramedics estimate the 34 year old male's injuries to consist of 15-18% burns to his body: both arms, throat, knee and face. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

NORTH YORKSHIRE FIRE & RESCUE WOULD LIKE TO REMIND MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC, AS A SAFETY MESSAGE, NOT TO USE FLAMMABLE LIQUIDS IN THE LIGHTING OF FIRES, OR FOR FLAMMABLE LIQUIDS TO BE LEFT IN THE VICINITY OF ANY OPEN FIRES.
