Incident Summary Night Shift Wednesday 18th April

18th April 2018

North Stainley Village, North Stainely - Time of call 17:32

Fire crew from Ripon responded to a Volvo car fire on a domestic driveway. The cause of the fire is believed to be an overheated exhaust. Fire damage caused to the engine compartment of car. Crews extinguished fire using one hose reel and small tools.

Ripon Road, Killinghall - Time of call 17:34

Harrogate fire crew attended a smoke alarm activation at a commercial premises. This was a false alarm due to a fault with the alarm system.

A162, Barkston Ash - Time of call 20:03

Fire crews from Tadcaster responded to reports of a fire in a field seen from the A162. Crews confirmed fire involved a car and used one hose reel and one breathing apparatus to extinguish fire. The cause of the fire is believed to be deliberate.

Brompton - Time of call 20:46

Northallerton fire crew attended a fire in a domestic garden, however this was controlled burning under supervision. No further action was required.


Catterick Garrison - Time of call 21:33

Colburn fire crew responded to reports of a gorse bush well alight, however upon arrival crews asked for assistance from a further 3 appliances and a water bowser. Approx 125 metres by 50 metres of gorse bush were well alight. Richmond, Leyburn and Reeth crews attended and Fire Crews and MOD staff worked together to get the fire under control. Fire was surrounded by hard standing so was unlikely to go anywhere. Ministry of Defence staff are supervising the site and allowing the fire to burn out. Incident will be revisited in the morning to assess the extent of burning overnight. Cause of fire is believed to be a misdirected flare.

Field behind St Leonards Crescent, Scarborough - Time of call 21:54

Scarborough fire crew were mobilised to a fire sighted in a field. Crews confirmed this was controlled burning under adequate supervision and no further action needed to be taken.

Cridling Stubbs - Time of call 22:11

Fire crew from Selby were mobilised to reports of smoke blowing across the M62. Crews discovered a small pile of rubbish had been set alight close to the M62 and extinguished the fire using a hose reel jet.

Thirsk – Time of call 02:30

Crew were mobilised to a report of a fire alarm sounding. This was a false alarm due to a faulty detector.

York – Time of call 02:55

Crew were mobilised to a report of a fire alarm sounding. This was a false alarm due to a system fault
