Property Fire, North Cowton

28th May 2015

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to reports of a domestic property on fire at North Cowton, near Richmond at 2pm this afternoon, 29th May 2015. Four appliances attended the scene including an aerial appliance from Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service. Crews were faced with a  fully developed fire of which made the property structurally unsafe. There is currently no confirmation  if there are any casualties involved in the incident and the investigations to determine a cause are in progress.

Crews will be remaining on scene for some considerable time damping down and assisting with investigations.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to a domestic property fire at North Cowton, near Richmond, at 2pm on Friday 29 May 2015.

Four fire engines attended the scene including an aerial ladder from Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service. Crews were faced with a fully developed fire which made the property structurally unsafe. They  revisted the scene again today, Saurday 30 May, to undertake further work to make the site safe enough for fire crews and police officers to enter the premises and conduct investigations into the cause of the fire.

As a result of this work, the Service can now sadly confirm, that a 54-year-old woman died at the incident.

North Yorkshire Police investigators are continuing to work alongside fire investigation officers to determine the cause of the fire. Investigations are expected to continue until Monday afternoon.

We are not in a position to name the woman at this time and we ask the media to respect the family's privacy.

Police officers will remain at the scene until the investigation is completed.
