Action Short of a Strike Announcement

15th December 2016

Following notification, earlier this week, from the FBU in North Yorkshire of a ‘yes’ result to their ballot for action short of a strike, they today (15th December) confirmed that the action short of strike will consist of:

·      A refusal to undertake any variation to members’ usual contracted hours of work.

·    A refusal to work any pre-arranged overtime.

·      A refusal to work any additional hours other than that laid down in a members’ primary contract.

This action short of a strike will run from 0800 hours on 22nd December 2016 until 0800 on the 10th January 2017.

This action will have minimal impact on the delivery of the Service, at this stage, as the Service will be responding to 999 calls as usual during this time.

The Service believes that all the concerns raised by the FBU have been addressed previously, during the extensive consultation which has taken place, over the last two and half years, about introduction of the Tactical Response Vehicles (TRVs).

Risk assessments and analysis of impact undertaken, over the last three years, suggest that the introduction of TRVs will have no significant adverse impact on the service to the public or to the safety of staff.

However, in an effort to avert this action, and any further industrial action, the Service has had discussions with the FBU this morning (15th December) and further discussions are scheduled to take place the day before the action is due to commence.
