E-cigarettes Safety Advice

8th April 2014

Following an incident at a pub near Richmond last Saturday, North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service is offering safety advice about the use of e-cigarettes.

Although we didn't attend the incident in Richmond, and haven't attended any incidents in North Yorkshire caused by e-cigarettes or e-cigarette chargers we are aware of them causing fires in other parts of the country.

If you use e-cigarettes we would offer the following advice;

- Don't buy cheap, unbranded chargers
- Don't leave them to charge whilst you are asleep or out
- Don't leave them next to flammable materials
- Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Remove the battery from the charger once it is fully charged.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service have further advice on their website;http://www.syfire.gov.uk/3399.asp

As do West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service: http://www.westyorksfire.gov.uk/news/advice-to-e-cigarette-users-this-christmas
