Exercise Jorvik Thunder

6th October 2011

On Thursday evening (6th October 2011), North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service are carrying out a multi pump exercise, in conjunction with staff at York Minster. The exercise is due to start at 1900 hours and will involve crews from York, Acomb and Huntington Fire Stations, Station Manager Alan Bell from York Fire Station said,

 “The aim of the exercise is to test current arrangements for dealing with a serious fire at the Minster and to ensure arrangements for securing water supplies are robust and sufficient. North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service routinely carry out exercises at key sites to prepare staff for worst case scenarios and wish to thank staff at York Minster for their assistance and cooperation with the planning and delivery of this useful and worthwhile exercise.”

 A spokesperson for the Minster commented,

 “York Minster has developed an excellent relationship with NYFRS and has a policy of working with them to ensure continual improvements in our emergency arrangements.”
