Fire in Scarborough

5th January 2009

North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service are currently in attendance at a house fire at a block of flats on The Crescent, Scarborough. The first call was received at 10:21. The initial call stated persons were reported in the building.

Over 30 firefighters and six appliances from Scarborough, Filey Malton and Sherburn are at the incident, plus the Incident Command Unit and the Ariel Ladder Platform.

On arrival crews were confronted with a severe fire affecting two floors of the three storey block of flats.  

Firefighters immediately got to work dealing with the fire. Two jets are in use and crews wearing breathing apparatus entered the building to perform a thorough search. Two casualties have been rescued from the building so far and the search continues for any further persons.
