North Yorkshire Flood Appeal launched

13th January 2016

North Yorkshire Flood Appeal launched with £30,000 pledged & dedicated website

The North Yorkshire flood appeal is a new appeal to support people who have been affected by the flood in North Yorkshire in December 2015 and still ongoing now. The appeal is set up by Two Ridings Community Foundation and is to benefit people living in North Yorkshire. To kick start the appeal we thank a number of generous donors, including Drax. This means the fund is already at £30,000. To help attract further donations Two Ridings Community Foundation has set up a dedicated website www.northyorksrecoveryfund.org.uk

The Foundation is accepting donations to the fund via this website or via cheques sent to our office. Once the fund is open for awards it will support individuals and charities affected by the recent flooding and individuals can apply via the website or by emailing office@trcf.org.uk or 01904 435 277.

David Jeffels, chairman of North Yorkshire County Council said: We’ve been overwhelmed by the response from both businesses and members of the public who have offered their time, donations and financial assistance to give relief to the people directly affected and the communities around them. We thank Drax for their donation, which will undoubtedly help North Yorkshire residents get back on their feet.”

Jan Garrill, Chief Executive of Two Ridings Community Foundation said: “The intention of the fund is to help people in North Yorkshire with limited means to get back to normal as quickly as possible after suffering the terrible impact of flooding. We aim to help people get back on their feet by providing grants for essential household items and repairs and may consider other costs incurred through flooding and any shortfall in insurance payments.  If anyone has been moved by the terrible images of North Yorkshire being flooded, please spare a thought for the residents whose Christmas and New Year has been blighted by floods and please donate what you can to help make their life a little more bearable over the next few weeks.”

We anticipate distributing funding from the week commencing 25th January. The charity will consider applications from individuals and families affected by flooding but cannot provide support to businesses or local councils. Grants to voluntary organisations helping with disaster relief may also be considered.

Businesses or individuals who wish to donate to the appeal should contact Jan Garrill, of Two Ridings Community Foundation 01904 435277 or go online at www.northyorksrecoveryfund.org

Two Ridings Community Foundation is also hosting the York Flood Appeal for funds to support victims of the December 2015 floods in York. To find out more about this appeal or to donate visit www.trcf.org.uk
