Icicles Close Valley Road Scarborough
7th December 2010
Fire crews from Scarborough were called to an incident with a difference on 6th December.
They were alerted by the Police at 13.43 to a number of large icicles hanging from the railway bridge endangering the public walking along Valley Road several meters below. The highway and footpath had to be closed while one Appliance and the Aerial Ladder Platform from Scarborough removed them.
It’s yet another reminder of how the wintery conditions can affect us all. Whilst looking pretty, they posed a potential hazard, should one have broken free and plummeted to the footpath below. An icicle is like a heavy spear and could cause serious injury.
