Large Fire at Recycling Plant in York

10th August 2010

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service received a call at 0400hrs this morning Wednesday 11th August 2010 to a  fire at a recycling plant at Marston Business Park in York which deals with chemicals.

We have 5 appliances, and an aerial ladder platform (ALP) in attendance. Having taken advice from the Environment Agency, firefighters are using foam to tackle the fire and are working to stop it spreading to surrounding buildings. Once the fire is out, crews will also work with partner agencies to deal with any residue left from the fire. The Environment Agency has had officers on site from the early stages of the incident and is working with the fire service to minimise any impact to the Fleet Beck, which flows past the site. Officers are closely monitoring the situation and are ready to contain any pollution.

At this time we would advise residents to keep their doors and windows shut, and if they feel unwell they should seek medical assistance.
