Northallerton bonfire partnership plans 2016 celebrations

23rd October 2016

Northallerton Town Council, is delighted once again to be hosting the 49thannual Firework & Bonfire Spectacular on Saturday 5th November from 5.00pm in the Applegarth, Northallerton.Bonfire night partnership team

The sole aim of this community event, run by North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, is to provide a FREE, fun and most importantly safe environment for over 6,000 local people to enjoy bonfire night festivities. All the partners work together as volunteers.

The event is organised by Northallerton Town Council with some additional support funding from Romanby and Brompton Parish Councils and Simon Bailes Peugeot which sponsors the event and organises STAR Radio to attend. Additional funding is collected as donations on the night from people attending so everyone who is planning to go is asked to support the event to ensure this local tradition continues for all to enjoy.

To emphasise the community based nature of the event there will be volunteer teams from both the Northallerton Street Angels and Rotary Club of Northallerton Mowbray collecting on the evening and asking everyone who attends to give generously.

This year will be bigger and better with sponsor Simon Bailes Peugeot bringing Star Radio with host Tim Lichfield to entertain the crowds. Plus, there will be live music from local bands and singers and a range of food vendors will be attending to tempt your taste buds. There will also be some merchandise stands on the night.

All three emergency services will be represented on the night. North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue will be bringing their command unit and the Northallerton neighbourhood policing team will be there along with the Yorkshire Ambulance Service, all as part of their community engagement and safety initiatives.

The entertainment and food offerings will start from 5pm with the bonfire being lit at about 7pm followed by the fireworks at about 7.30pm. Please note: The Applegarth long stay car park will be closed from 1pm onwards on Saturday 5th.

North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service, Station Manager, Mick Sowden commented on behalf of NYFRS, North Yorkshire Police and Yorkshire Ambulance Service: “The emergency services continue to acknowledge a year on year reduction in incidents relating to bonfire night. We want people to enjoy this year’s Bonfire Night celebrations safely, so we would urge people to come along to this organised display as this year promises to be bigger and better than ever."

Councillor Claire Palmer, Mayor of Northallerton said: "I am really pleased that the Town Council has been joined by all the local emergency services, and for the sponsorship from Simon Bailes Peugeot and the support of volunteers from Street Angels and Rotary to once again run this much loved annual event. We hope that the community will come out in force and enjoy, in a safe environment, a fantastic display and range of entertainment and be willing to support our fundraising efforts making sure that next year's 50th year event is truly spectacular."

Managing director of Simon Bailes Peugeot, Simon Bailes, said: “The annual fireworks display and entertainment is the most talked about event in the area and we are delighted to be once again working with the partners and volunteers to deliver an even bigger and better event this year. We are also very much looking forward to the 50th anniversary event next year which will be even better again.

“We want to encourage as many people and families from across the town and the neighbouring villages to attend the free event to cut down on the number of accidents and injuries that occur on Bonfire Night.”
