Prevention and Protection Strategies Consultation

2nd November 2015

Our current prevention (community safety) and protection (business fire safety) strategies end in March 2016. We have, therefore, recently revised these strategies and are launching a consultation today to gather views.

'Prevention' is the work undertaken by the Service to reduce the number of deaths and injuries caused by fires, road traffic collisions and other emergencies, by reducing the frequency and impact of those emergencies. This is primarily done through the provision of advice and education.

‘Protection’ refers to the work in respect of the Authority’s legislative and enforcement responsibilities under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, along with other primary and secondary legislation, government guidance and industry best practice, as it relates to non-domestic premises.

We are launching a consultation, today, on the two draft strategies to gather feedback on our intended approach to undertaking this (prevention and protection) work.

Copies of the strategies along with links to a survey for each are available here.

The consultation closes on Sunday 13th December 2015.
