Retired Fire Fighters Honoured at Ceremony

3rd December 2009

Retired Fire fighters who have previously served at Colburn Fire Station were thanked at a special ceremony last week. The ceremony which was held at Colburn Fire Station was inspired by a suggestion from County Councillor Melva Steckles, who has supported the station since it was opened in 1993.  The Fire fighters, who have since retired from the service, were presented with a commemorative trophy and certificate thanking them for their contribution to the local community.

Cllr Steckles said: “I am proud and delighted to recognise the years of service given by the Retained Fire fighters at our local Stations, and in particular here at Colburn. I would like to thank the Fire-fighters, both serving and retired, for the high level of commitment and service they provide to our residents.” She concludes: “I am always pleased to see the community work carried out by our Fire fighters with the young people in our communities, and the benefits that this type of work brings.”
Certificates were presented to Mr Bill Hustwick who served both at Leyburn and Colburn Fire Stations for 29 years, and Mr Mike Foster, who served at Northallerton and Colburn Fire Stations for 16 years. Awards will also be presented to Alan Boydon and Phil York who also served at Colburn.

Group Manager Carl Boasman who presented the awards said: “I am very please to recognise our Fire fighters at this ceremony.  Without their years of commitment and dedication, it would not be possible to provide the continued high level of service to our communities.”
