Community Safety Proposals- Capital Investment Programme - Selby and Esk Valley

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Authority has published its latest Community Safety Proposals, which include a proposal to review the Capital Programme in line with organisational needs and public expectations.

The proposals undergo a rigorous twelve-week consultation exercise before a final decision is taken by the Fire Authority in December each year.

As part of the overall modernisation process, it is proposed to review the Fire Cover in the Selby District and also the need to replace Fire Stations in the Esk Valley, located at Danby and Goathland.

Chief Fire Officer Nigel Hutchinson says "The Fire and Rescue Service seeks to provide Stations which meet the needs of the Communities we serve. The Service delivers a range of Fire Safety initiatives and we involve Communities in the use of Fire Stations." He continues "Our Fire Stations have a strong sense of Community purpose and this is particularly important in rural areas. We are looking to enhance the level of Service in these areas with improved facilities."

The proposals in the Danby and Goathland areas seek to build new Fire Stations to meet the needs of the Community.

The proposal in the Selby area suggests a review of the existing fire cover that may substantiate the need to build a permanently crewed Fire Station on the Western edge of Selby. The Station would be staffed by the current Personnel from Selby and Tadcaster Fire Stations. Fire appliances would remain in Selby and Tadcaster, available when required.

Chief Fire Officer Nigel Hutchinson says "We want to offer the best possible service to the Selby and Tadcaster areas in terms of responding to incidents, prevention, and education work. Building a new Fire Station could be one way of improving the already effective cover in this area." He continues "Clearly before any decision is made, a review of the impact this change will be carried out. As part of the consultation process, we welcome comments from members of the public and Business Communities."

The consultation process is ongoing and North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service invite members of the public to share their views before the end of September. Feedback can be given on the website http://www.northyorksfire.gov.uk/

Anybody wishing to receive a copy of the community safety proposal document should visit the Fire and Rescue Service website www.northyorksfire.gov.uk or contact the Corporate Information Unit on 01609 788501.

Chief Fire Officer Nigel Hutchinson finishes by saying "The consultation process is a chance for members of the public to have a say on the way the service functions. The aim is to deliver a first class service to our communities in the most efficient way, we welcome the publics' opportunity to help us achieve this."
