Fire at Harefield Hall Hotel July 2006
15.07.06 - Fire at Harefield Hall Hotel – Pateley Bridge At 0752 North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service received a call to a report of fire in the Hotel. Crews from Summerbridge and Harrogate Fire Stations were mobilised and arrived quickly. The Hotel Management had quickly carried out a full evacuation of the Hotel Guests and Staff. The Officer in Charge of the Summerbridge Appliance assessed the situation and called for further assistance. Crews from Summerbridge were committed to the building, but due to the severity of the fire, following the correct procedure, were forced to withdraw and fight the fire from outside until further appliances arrived. On arrival of the additional Appliances, Crews were re committed to the building to fight the fire from inside. Once inside the building, Crews were faced with a fully developed, severe fire, which was spreading to upper floors. Using Breathing Apparatus and hose lines, Firefighters fought the fire for over an hour, stopping the spread of fire any further.
Area Manager Dean McQue said “During the Fire fighting operation, Crews from a number of different Stations fought the fire, which proved very difficult to access. Firefighters were successful in stopping the spread of fire to other parts of the building.” He continues “Our aim was to stop the fire spreading and save as much of the building as possible. Crews worked hard to achieve this.” He finishes by saying “The fire is obviously a tragedy for the Hotel owners and we wish them every success in getting their business back to normal.”
Appliances from Harrogate, Masham, Ripon, Selby, Richmond and Tadcaster were requested. An Ariel Ladder Platform was mobilised from York as a precaution, along with an Incident Support Unit from Malton. In total, eight Fire Appliances, two Specialist Appliances and four Support Officers attended this incident. The total Personnel involved at this incident totalled more than fourty five.
After the fire, an investigation was carried out by Specialist Fire Investigation Officers. The cause of the fire is thought to involve a deep fat fryer catching fire.
