Four People Rescued During a Fire at Ramshill Road, Scarborough

 

At 2043 on the 1st August 2006, North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service responded to a fire in a property on Ramshill Road, Scarborough.

 

As part of new procedures recently introduced, callers were asked for additional information about the height of the building. Control Operators quickly established that the building was four storeys high and mobilised the Turntable Ladder at the same time as the Fire Appliances. Two Fire Appliances and the Turntable Ladder were in attendance shortly after the first call was received.

 

On arrival, Crews discovered a fire in the ground floor of the building, with heavy smoke logging to rest of the property. A number of people were reported missing in the building. The Incident Commander immediately requested a further two appliances to assist with Firefighting and rescue operations.

 

Crews wearing Breathing Apparatus entered the building to fight the fire and search for casualties. One person was quickly rescued from the second floor using the Turntable Ladder. One person was rescued using a short extension ladder. Two further people were led to safety using an external fire escape. One casualty was taken to Hospital by Ambulance.

 

In total four Fire Appliances, one Turntable Ladder, Over Twenty Firefighters and two Support Officers attended the incident. An investigation is currently underway as to the cause of the fire.
