Summary of Incidents
Thursday 13th April 2006 Blackburns Yard, Whitby On Thursday 13th April 2006 North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service responded to a house fire in Blackburns Yard, Whitby. The call was received by Fire Control at 23:56, and two appliances were mobilised from Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay. An additional appliance from Lythe was requested. On arrival, crews were faced with a heavily smoke logged house, with one person reported missing inside. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus were committed to the building to search for the missing person. Firefighters quickly rescued a woman from the house, but despite their prompt actions, the woman was unfortunately declared dead at the scene. The woman was in her 50’s and was the only occupant of the house. The fire was quickly extinguished using a hose reel jet and thermal imaging camera. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, at this time it is believed to have started accidentally.
17th April 2006 Valley Road Northallerton On Monday 17th April at 1944hrs North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service responded to a flat fire, in Valley Road Northallerton. On arrival, one person was reported missing in the flat. Crews wearing breathing apparatus were committed to the flat. One male was quickly rescued from the property, and given first aid by the fire crews until the arrival of paramedics. Smoke alarms were fitted to the property, but the batteries had been removed. 16th April 2006 Moors Fire, Lockton High Moor, Lockton On Sunday 16th April North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service attended a fire at Lockton High Moor. The fire is believed to have started accidentally. In total eleven Fire Appliances and sixty Firefighters attended this incident. Crews spent several hours at the scene, making good progress to extinguish the fire.
15th April 2006 Yafforth Road, Northallerton On Saturday 15th April 2006 North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service attended a fire on Standard Way Industrial Estate in Northallerton. A large amount of rubbish had been set alight. Five Fire Appliances and a Water Bowser attended this incident It is believed the fire was started deliberately, although the cause is currently under investigation.
North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service would like to take this opportunity to remind households of the following points;
- Ensure your home has a smoke detector fitted.
- Have at least one detector per floor.
- Test smoke detectors weekly by operation.
- Help and advice can be obtained from your local Fire Station.
