World Cup- Celebrating Safely June 2006

World Cup 2006 - Celebrating Safely

As most people will now be well aware, the England football squad are competing in the World Cup in Germany this summer and expectations are high for a successful run in the competition, at least to the knockout stages and hopefully to the final itself.

Whilst the vast majority of the public will celebrate – or commiserate – the World Cup safely and responsibly, North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service wish to take this opportunity to remind people of how to look after themselves, friends, family and customers, with the following safety tips.

North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service Safety Reminders for the World Cup
Holding Parties At Home
·
Ensure everyone has a safe way of getting home – before they have a drink
·         Do not let young people walk home alone – especially young women
·         Make sure young people do not go over the top with drink – many young people do not know a sensible limit and will be influenced by older drinkers
·         Always have a good selection of non-alcoholic drinks available for anyone having to drive
·         Keep a couple of phone numbers of reliable taxi firms handy for those who change their plans
·         Prepare cooked food before you start drinking – Never Drink and Fry
·         Best of all – only have cold snacks or take-away food
·         Don’t use candles at a party where people are drinking – save them for romantic nights with your partner – or to get rid of the smells the next day

·
Going Out To Watch Games
·         Always make sure you know how you are going to get home safely
·         Never Drink & Drive
·         Never accept a lift from someone who has been drinking
·         Put at least two phone numbers of reliable taxi firms into your mobile phone
·         Makes sure your phone is fully charged and has enough credit to phone someone if you get into difficulties
·         Don’t be tempted to start cooking when you have been drinking - Grab a take away on the way home

Organising An Official Event
Be aware, if you are the organiser of an official event you must ensure you have consulted with the appropriate enforcing authority to ensure you comply with all of the relevant legislation such as;
·         Licensing Act 2003
·         Fire Precautions Act 1971
·         Fire Precautions (Workplace) Regulations 1997
Remember, it is your licence and your business, so don’t be tempted to allow overcrowding or anti-social behaviour – for any occasion

Remember: Don’t Drink & Fry – Don’t Drink & Drive
