Direct Trainer - Crew Manager

4 x District Based Posts

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service have an exciting and highly rewarding opportunity for existing substantive and competent wholetime Crew Managers. The posts have been created to assist with the delivery of acquisition and maintenance of operational skills across the Service. In addition, you will be supporting Firefighters in development, with the successful completion of their Firefighter Diploma to achieve competency in role within a realistic timescale.

Workloads and commitments will be centrally managed from our Training Centre at Easingwold and the posts will be based in one of four district areas as follows:

  • Hambleton and Richmondshire
  • Scarborough and Ryedale
  • Harrogate and Craven
  • City of York and Selby

The post holders will occasionally be required to assist with the delivery of courses at our Training Centre in Easingwold.

These posts are conditioned to the day duties duty system, in accordance with the Scheme of Conditions of Service. The starting salary will be £33,187 per annum which is Crew Manager Competent rate of pay. In addition, a 7% allowance to the appropriate salary is payable to reflect the flexibility required to deliver essential training. Additional allowances are also available to cover incidental transport and subsistence costs, in line with current service policies.

You will be required to work 5 days each week on a flexible basis, averaging 42 hours per week. You will also be required to provide evening availability to assist with delivery of the training, with a minimum contractual commitment of up to 15 weekend days each year. In return, a flexible working pattern is offered.

Leave Entitlement is 30 days (plus 3 long service days when at the start of the leave year (1st January) there has been at least 5 complete years’ continuous service) of which 3 leave days will be taken between Christmas and New Year, along with the public holidays, to provide for Christmas closedown.  All public holidays will be taken on the days announced by Government.

To be eligible to apply for this post, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a substantive and competent Crew Manager
  • In date for all operational training in line with your current service training policy
  • Hold a Crew Manager NVQ or equivalent qualification
  • Have a satisfactory Personal Development Review, Appraisal or equivalent within the last year
  • Not be in possession of any formal disciplinary sanctions at the point of application
  • Not be subject to any formal development plans for performance related issues within current role, at point of application
  • Be medically fit to undertake the role of Crew Manager
  • Willing to undertake an enhanced (DBS) check
