Incident Summary – Monday, 8th June 2026
Time: 19:48 Location: Mowthorpe, Hackness
Crews from Scarborough and Sherburn responded to a single vehicle road traffic collision in which a vehicle had collided with a bridge. On arrival all persons were out and the vehicle was being recovered. No fire service action was required.
Time: 20:24 Location: Silsden
Skipton and Grassington assisted with a building fire in West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service’s area. The fire which was confined to one room only had been extinguished but a breathing apparatus team from North Yorkshire still entered the building to confirm no persons were still inside the building. No persons were reported and the the incident was left with West Yorkshire Fire crews and Police to investigate the cause of the fire.
Time: 20:52 Location: A59, Harrogate
Harrogate and Knaresborough crews responded to smoke coming from a HGV tanker carrying Nitric acid. Crews confirmed no signs of fire to vehicle or tanker on arrival and that the smoke sighted came from overheated brakes only. Crews cooled the brakes using a hose reel jet. Police attended to assist with traffic management while this was in progress. The incident was left with the driver who will seek professional advice to ensure vehicle is safe to drive again. All brakes were sufficiently cooled and checked using a thermal imaging camera.
Time: 21:32 Location: Hookstone Chase, Harrogate
Harrogate crews responded to a kettle accidentally left on an active hob inside a residential property. The kettle had been extinguished by the occupants prior to the fire crews arrival and no injuries were reported. Crews carried out a thermal inspection and isolated the hob to confirm no further fire spread. Advice was given the occupants.
Time: 22:16 Location: Welburn, Malton
Malton responded to a fire inside a old oil drum which had been left unattended outside a property. Crews extinguished the fire using a hose reel jet. The cause of the fire is believed deliberate.
Crews from Harrogate, Acomb and Malton also responded to activated fire alarms. After inspection, these were confirmed as false alarms.
