Incident Summary – Friday Dayshift, 24th January 2025

Time: 09:12 Location: Masham
A fire officer assessed a dangerous structure outside a commercial building which was at risk to members of the public below. On arrival, the incident had been dealt with by on site builders who had removed the dangerous structure. Advice was given to the responsible person.
Time: 10:09 Location: York
A crew from York gained entry to a property for awaiting ambulance crews outside. The casualty was left in the safe hands of paramedics.
Time: 10:22 Location: Knaresborough
A crew from Harrogate responded to a tree which was smoking after strong winds had blown it onto an electrical wire. Crews awaited the arrival of Northern Power who isolated the electrics and crews assessed the tree which had stopped smoking. Incident was left with Northern Power Grid engineers.
Time: 10:23 Location: Leyburn
A crew from Leyburn secured four scaffolding boards which were at risk of falling onto the footpath below. Crews used a triple extension ladder, working at height equipment and small tools. Advice was given to the responsible person.

One of our fire officers came across a fallen tree on the road. Our officer informed other road users of the hazard and police were made aware. A local tree surgeon arrived who had contacted the council to ensure the tree could be removed safely and the road could be reopened.

A crew from Filey used a triple exterior ladder and small tools to secure a large heavy shop sign which was at risk of fallen due to strong winds. Crews made the sign safe and gave advice to the responsible person.
Time: 10:46 Location: Ripon
Crews from Ripon and Harrogate responded to a tree which had fallen onto a vehicle and trapped the occupant inside. Crews made the vehicle safe and liaised with paramedics to assist the casualty and five dogs out of the vehicle by removing the vehicles door with cutting equipment. The incident was left with police and ambulance who transported the casualty to hospital with non life threatening injuries. The dogs were left with a responsible person.

A crew from Malton responded to a roof which had started to come off a line of attached garages. Crews used hand tools to secure the roof.
Time: 11:28 Location: Whitby
A fire officer assessed reports of roof slates falling from the top of a commercial property. After inspection no roof slates had fallen. Advice was given to the responsible person to arrange a footpath closure with the council.
Time: 11:31 Location: Acomb
Crews from Acomb and York responded to an fire alarm activating fire inside a residential property. A smell of smoke was reported on the ground floor of the property by the caller. After inspection, crews found no smoke and confirmed this was a false alarm. The cause of the alarm activation was due to a faulty detector.

A fire officer assessed a small amount of fence which had blown over in the wind . There was no danger to the public and advice was given to the occupier.
Time: 12:42 Location: Skipton
A crew from Skipton responded to an activated fire alarm inside a residential building. This was caused by the testing of the system and confirmed a false alarm. Advice was given to the responsible person.

A crew from Harrogate responded to a tree which had fallen onto a property with the occupant believed to still be inside. Crews arrived to find the occupant outside and uninjured. Crews ensured the occupant was safe and well, gave advice and the incident was left with the homeowners.

A fire officer assessed loose roof tiles on top of a commercial building which had been reported by the owner. Barrier tape were put up to cordon off the footpath to avoid risk of injury to the public. Local authorities were made aware to provide further safety measures.

A crew from Harrogate pitched their triple exterior ladder against a commercial building to remove a loose sign from falling onto the footpath below. Crew power was also used.
Time: 13:39 Location: Scarborough
A crew from Scarborough responded to an activated fire alarm inside a commercial building. This was caused by a sprinkler system being activated by accident. Crews gave advice and left the incident in the hands of on site staff.

A fire officer responded to assess a large tree located at the rear of a property at risk of falling. Occupants were evacuated while an assessment was completed. The incident was left in the hands of local authorities who have arranged to have the tree removed.

A crew from Northallerton responded to loose roof tiles which they removed from a domestic property using a triple exterior ladder and small tools.

A fire officer mobilised assessed roof tiles which were at risk of falling. Prior to the officers arrival the roof tiles had fallen and there was no further risk to the public. Advice was given to the property owners.

An officer attended flooding inside a property and isolated the electrics. Advice was given to the occupant and a enroute fire appliance was stood down.

A crew from Richmond used 13.5 metres ladders to remove lead hanging from the roof the of a property to a safe place.
Time: 15:19 Location: Acomb
A crew from Ripon responded to a conservatory roof which was at risk of blowing away and causing damage to nearby properties. Crews removed the roof sheets and made the structure safe.
Time: 15:34 Location: Harrogate
A crew from Harrogate responded to a fallen tree blocking the road. Prior to crews arrival, a local farmer had moved the tree to a nearby field. No further fire service action was required.
Time: 16:08 Location: Scarborough
Crews from Scarborough and Filey responded to some decking at the rear of domestic properties which had smoke logged nearby properties. Crews entered the property wearing breathing apparatus equipment and extinguished the fire using a hose reel jet. A positive pressure ventilation was used to clear a nearby property of smoke logging. The cause of the fire is being investigated by our fire investigation officer.

A crew from Northallerton responded to a chimney fire confined to chimney. The chimney kit was used to extinguish the fire. Advice was given to the occupier.
