Incident Summary – Day Shift, Thursday 8th May 2025

To ensure that people are not identifiable from our incident round-up, we will no longer be providing street names for smaller towns and villages, where incidents have occurred.

Time:  09.43  Location: York

A crew from Acomb responded to a reports of a hedgerow on fire seen from a road.  This was found to be a controlled burning under supervision.

Time: 11:35   Location: Huntington

A crew from York responded to reports of a vehicle on fire. On arrival, crews found no sign of fire, however a blown turbo inside the car had been mistaken as smoke. Crew power was used only to move the vehicle to a safe location and left the owner awaiting the arrival of recovery.

Time:  11:42  Location: Ripon 

A crew from Ripon responded to a fire in the open. After inspection, this was confirmed as controlled burning under supervision. Advice was given.

Time:  12:08  Location: Whitby

A crew from Whitby alongside the aerial ladder platform appliance from Scarborough assisted with the recovery of a herring gull stuck in netting on the second floor of building. Crews rescued the bird and handed it over to a responsible person.

Time: 12:25   Location: Wetherby

A crew from Tadcaster mobilised to assist West Yorkshire Fire Service with a fire inside a residential building. However, the fire was out prior to their arrival and the incident was left with crews from West Yorkshire.

Time:  13:52  Location: York

Crews from York and Acomb alongside Acomb’s aerial ladder platform appliance responded to reports of flames on the balcony of a three story residential building. After inspection, the fire was found out on arrival after the occupant had extinguished a burnt tea towel. Crews gave advice and completed a home fire safety visit with the occupant.

Time:  14:32  Location: Leyburn

Crews from Richmond, Leyburn and Northallerton responded to a three vehicle road traffic collision. All drivers were out prior to fire crews arrival except two passengers who became trapped after their vehicle impacted a hedge. Fire crews stabilised and isolated the batteries of all vehicles and then used e-draulic cutting equipment to make access for ambulance crews to assess the casualties trapped inside their car. Crew power was then used to remove the casualties from the vehicle and safely into the road ambulance for transport to hospital. The incident was left with police.
