Incident Summary – Thursday Nightshift, 5th June 2025

Time: 18:27  Location: Selby

Selby mobilised to a traffic cone on fire under a bridge. Crews extinguished the fire using a bucket of water only. The cause of this fire was believed to had been deliberate.

Time: 19:13  Location: Scarborough

Scarborough mobilised to a fire in the open located under a public footpath bridge. Crews extinguished the fire using a bucket of water. The cause of this fire was believed to had been deliberate.

Time: 19:47  Location: Scarborough

Scarborough and Sherburn mobilised to an electrical fire inside a vehicle with a LPG tank. Crews extinguished the fire with a dry power extinguisher before gaining access to isolate the LPG tank, which was confirmed not to be involved in the fire after investigation. A hose reel jet was used to dampen down and the incident was left with the vehicle owner who was arranging recovery.

Time: 20:38  Location: Whitby

Whitby and Lythe mobilised to check there was no sign of fire in an unoccupied house after an electric blanket had accidently been left on since the morning. Crews externally investigated the property with a thermal imaging camera and confirmed there was no sign of fire or heat inside the property.

Time: 20:42  Location: Stokesley

Stokesley mobilised to a camp fire left unattended in a wooded area. Crews extinguished the fire with one hose reel jet. The cause of the fire was believed to had been deliberate.

Time: 20:43  Location: Scarborough

When returning from a previous incident, Scarborough appliance witnessed a person who had fallen on a footpath. Crews assessed the casualty and administered first aid and oxygen therapy prior to the ambulance crews arrival. The incident was left with ambulance crews.

Time: 23:33  Location: Selby

Both Selby crews mobilised to a pan fire in the downstairs kitchen of a domestic property which was out prior to fire crews arrival but had still caused an unsafe amount of smoke inside the house. Neighbours confirmed one occupant was still inside the house prior to fire crews arrival so two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus equipment entered the property to assist the occupant outside to the awaiting ambulance crews. A positive pressure ventilation fan was then used to clear the property of any remaining smoke and the occupant was taken to hospital via road for precautionary reasons.

Time: 01:39   Location: Selby

Both Selby crews attended a vehicle which had impacted a domestic property. No persons inside the property were injured and crews assessed the integrity of the building after making the vehicle safe. Advice was given to the homeowner and the incident was left with police to arrange recovery.

Time: 06:04  Location: Broadlands Drive, East Ayton

Crew were mobilised to a report of smoke from a vehicle. Crews arrived on scene to find vehicle well alight. Extinguished using 1 breathing apparatus and 1 hose reel.

Time: 06:23  Location: Whitby

Crew were mobilised to a report of smoke from a ceiling and alarm sounding in a premises. On arrival this was a false alarm due to a candle left unattended.

 

Crews from York, Malton, Filey and Knaresborough also responded to activated fire alarms inside commercial and residential buildings. After inspection, these were confirmed as false alarms.
