Incident Summary Night Shift Friday 6th June 2025
Time: 19:48 Location: Cridling Stubbs
Incident involved a small fire in the open of general garden waste. A crew from Selby used a hose reel to extinguish the fire and the cause is thought to have been deliberate.
Time: 20:17 Location: Sutton-in-Craven
Fire Control received a call to help a horse that was stuck in a culvert. A crew from Skipton along with an animal rescue crew from Tadcaster attended the incident. Jigsaw a 17yr old mare had been found on her back in the culvert. Prior to the animal rescue crew arriving the Skipton crew had been able to get Jigsaw back onto her feet but due to wet ground and the slope of the culvert they were unable to get her to safer land. A farmer assisted with their JCB to dig out the culvert to make it more accessible. Crews were then able to deploy their animal rescue equipment and training to rescue Jigsaw. She was checked over by a vet and apart from a few minor cuts and bruising she’s expected to make a full recovery.
Time: 20:58 Location: Off Quaker Lane, Northallerton
Northallerton crew attended reports of a fire affecting a fence and spreading to trees. upon arrival they found this to be 2 compost bins smouldering. The crew used a hose reel jet to damp down. the cause is thought to be due to spontaneous combustion.
Time: 21:18 Location: Hookstone woods, Harrogate
A Harrogate crew attended a report of a fire in a wooded area. after investigating on foot they found a camp fire that had been left unattended. the crew used a bucket of water to extinguish the fire.
Time: 22:27 Location: Stripe Lane, Skelton
Acomb and York crews were mobilised to reports of a pick up truck on fire. Upon arrival the cab was engulfed in fire. the crew extinguished the fire using 2 hose reels and 2 breathing apparatus. The fire caused 100% fire damage to the cab of the vehicle and 75% fire damage to the engine compartment. The cause is thought to be deliberate and the incident was left with police.
