Incident Summary – Wednesday 20th August Day Shift

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service are still in attendance at Fylingdales Moor with multiple fire appliances still fighting the fire. This is an ongoing protracted incident. We are also advising that people avoid having controlled burns at this time.

08:17 – New Earswick, York

A crew from Wetherby who were assisting us with fire cover in the York area attended a small fire that had been lit in the open. This had extinguished itself prior to the arrival of the fire service. The crew inspected the area to ensure it was fully out.

11:02 – Heworth, York

A crew from Acomb responded to a report of a fire in the open. This was a small campfire that had been extinguished prior to the crew arriving. They proceeded to dampen down the area to ensure the fire did not reignite.

11:06 – Flaxley Road, Selby

A crew from Selby responded to an automatic fire alarm at a residential premises. This was confirmed to be a false alarm.

12:40 – Broughton Road, Skipton

A crew from Skipton responded to an automatic fire alarm activation in a residential premises. This was confirmed to be a false alarm.

13:28 – Queen Margaret’s Road, Scarborough

Crews from Scarborough and Malton responded to multiple calls regarding a fire affecting sheds and an industrial unit. two shed were completely destroyed by the fire, whilst the remaining shed and industrial unit suffered fire damage and smoke logging. Once the industrial unit had been naturally ventilated, the crew removed ceiling tiles to ensure the fire hadn’t spread into the roof void. Crews used a hose reel jet, 2 breathing apparatus, a thermal imaging camera and small tools to extinguish the fire and dampen down hotspots.
