Incident Summary – Nightshift, Saturday 20th September 2025
Time: 18:09 Location: A1 Motorway Southbound, Near Junction 46
Crews from Harrogate and Wetherby responded to reports of a vehicle that had crashed into a ditch. The occupant was uninjured and in the hands of police prior to fire crews arrival. No action was required by the fire crews.
Time: 18:21 Location: A59, Skipton
Skipton responded to a two vehicle road traffic collision. No persons were trapped or injured. Crews assessed the scene alongside police and assisted with scene safety. The incident was left with police and ambulance crews. Small tools and crew power were used only.
Time: 21:27 Location: Newby, Settle
Hawes and Hornby responded to flooding inside a domestic property. Crews diverted the floodwater away from the property using shovels and tools and gave advice to the occupant.
Time: 22:23 Location: Threshfield Bridge, Grassington
Crews from Grassington and Skipton responded to a single vehicle road traffic collision after a casualty had driven through flood water and flipped there car. The vehicle was thankfully out of the water and fire crews gave immediate first aid to the occupant prior to ambulance crews arrival. Crews made the vehicle safe and handed the incident over to police who have arranged recovery.

Crews from Bentham and Hornby responded to a vehicle stuck in flood water with two people trapped inside. Crews arrived in water rescue equipment and pushed the vehicle to safety with the occupants inside as water levels were still acceptable for fire crews to commit on foot.
Time: 22:05 Location: Rawcliffe, York
An officer assessed reports of surface water flooding inside a residential area. The fire officer confirmed there was no risk to the properties at this time after there was concerns from one resident their property could be affected.
Time: 23:07 Location: Foss Way, Colburn
A crew from Richmond responded to flooding outside some commercial buildings. Approximately 18 by 25 metres of rainwater had accumulated and crews pumped the water away from the properties to nearby wasteland.
Time: 23:16 Location: Pately Bridge
Grassington crew responded to flooding outside residential properties due to blocked drains. Crews used chimney rods to unblock the drains and pumped the water away using an ejector pump.
Time: 01:15 Location: Appersett, Hawes
Hawes mobilised to a car stuck in floodwater. Crews entered the water using water rescue equipment to push the car to a place of safety. Both occupants of the vehicle arranged a taxi to return home and will arrange recovery for the vehicle during daylight hours.
Time: 02:48 Location: Near Valley Gardens, Harrogate
Both Harrogate crews responded to a possible fire inside a residential property. Crews entered the property in breathing apparatus equipment to assist an occupant with mobility issues trapped inside the property. NO fire or smoke damage was visible, but only light smoke logging from burnt food. Crews used a positive pressure ventilation fan to clear the smoke from the property and advice was given to the occupants.

A crew from Acomb assisted ambulance crews with the difficult extrication of a patient stuck inside their property on the first floor. Crew power used.
Time: 05:18 Location: Wykeham Street, Scarborough
Scarborough responded to two occupants trapped inside their bedroom after the door handle completely shattered. Crews used brute force to open the door. Advice was given to the occupants.
Crews from Northallerton (x2), Richmond, York, Harrogate (x2), Whitby and Acomb (x2) also responded to activated fire alarms inside commercial and residential properties. After inspection, these were all confirmed as false alarms.
